What needs to be considered when implementing large-scale LPBF in production?

Challenge and Motivation

• Increasing number of LPBF machines with large build volumes (≥600x600 mm²) entering market.
• The study intends to identify and classify technical aspects arising in large machines (e.g., multi-scanner stitching, high laser deflection angles, gas flow, part distortion).

Objective

• Identification and classification of technical considerations for large-scale LPBF processing from literature, ICTM community and ILT experience.
• Summary of already existing approaches to target these technical aspects and identification of research gaps.
