How do process conditions affect gas and heat flow during the DED-LB/M process?

Challenge and Motivation

  • Previous ICTM projects have demonstrated the feasibility of visualizing gas dynamics within the DED-LB/M process with schlieren imaging for better process understanding.
  • However, the causes of those gas dynamics and their influence on the cladding results are unclear.

Objective

  • Combination of schlieren imaging and thermography imaging to predict cladding results.
  • Investigate correlations between gas dynamics, component movement, temperature distribution and cladding results during the process.
