What are the potentials of a process chain, consisting of additive and subtractive manufacturing, compared to conventional manufacturing of turbomachinery parts?


Challenge and Motivation

  • Challanges of conventional manufacturing due to hard to machine materials lead to high process costs.
  • Usage of Laser-Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) to reduce the volume of the machined material and to replace time-consuming and expensive roughing processes.


  • Demonstration of a manufacturing process chain consisting of LPBF and finish milling. 
  • Comparison of a process chain based on LPBF with a conventional process chain regarding part quality and manufacturing costs.
